This method of finding the applicable approach, combining different specialties, not only applied to my astrophysics study but extended into my every-day analysis of how to approach problems in my industry.īrandon Brown graduated from UC Irvine in 2004 with a BS degree in Applied Math and was on the 5 year plan. While the broad scope of a Physics education made initial entry into a specific industry position more difficult, the range of expertise developed has permitted me to be able to apply my education more broadly across the wide range of technologies utililzed in the Aircraft/Aerospace industry.Įxperience at UCI: I loved how Astrophysics combined all of the aspects of a Physics education.
I am involved in advocating for the Forest Product Industry and work regularly on various policies as they are issued by the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Agriculture.Įxperience at UCI: I really enjoyed the flexibility of picking relevant coursework and the wide ranging issues they covered.Įmployment: Chief Engineer at Thales Avionics, Incīio: I received my BA in 1974 and continued on to receive an MA in physics in 1977. I was always fascinated with the earth as a kid so it was only fitting to study all the aspects associated with it.Įmployment: Coordinator, Public Policy at American Forest and Paper Associationīio: I am currently pursuing a career in the non profit sector. I assist in site planning, building design, and with my background and knowledge in planning I guide our projects through the government approval process up until they reach the permitting phase.Įxperience at UCI: I enjoyed all of it.
I eventually left the City to pursue a career in the private sector of design development which is where I'm at today working for an architecture firm that specializes in customs single family residential.

I worked my way up through the department and to the postion Planning Technician, where my responsibilities consisted of reviewing and facilitating development projects through the public review process in accordance with zoning code, building code and various other regulations. I also liked the efficiency of the Quarter system.Įmployment: Associate Design/Project Manager at Talon Design Groupīio: Right out of school I started working for a City Planning Department as a GIS Mapping intern, responsible for updating the City zoning map, land use map and various others. I taught in secondary schools for awhile, but ended up taking a programmer/analyst position in industry.Įxperience at UCI: I enjoyed the subject and the teaching. Some of them I still talk to now and sometimes hang out with.Įmployment: Senior Programmer/Analyst at Lobel Financialīio: I stayed on to get a master's degree in Math and a teaching credential. There was always someone there when I needed help and I always felt like I had tons of support.Įmployment: Laboratory Technician at Orange Coast Analyticalīio: I went from undergrad, staight to work, maybe grad school in the future? Will see.Įxperience at UCI: I enjoyed making friends in Chem Labs, it makes lab much more enjoyable and makes the time goes faster during those x amount of hours of wait time. I started medical school in 2013 and am now applying for a residency in Emergency Medicine.Įxperience at UCI: I enjoyed working closely with the great faculty and graduate students as well as the LARC program. After graduating from UC Irvine in 2008 I spent time working at UCI and UCSF in genetic epidemiology research positions. I plan to enter a residency and practice in a field where I can use my physics background to improve patient health and advance medicine.Įxperience at UCI: While studying Mathematics and Physics at UCI, I most enjoyed understanding how the universe works and how mathematics and physics contribute to the knowledge of our relationship to it.Įmployment: Medical Student at SUNY Downstate School of Medicine Class of 2017īio: I am currently a 4th year medical student at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn. I am currently an M2 medical student at University of Illinois School of Medicine and will graduate in 2019. During that time I volunteered in a hospital and tutored disadvantaged children in physics, algebra and chemistry. Kareem Afdal Allamīio: After graduation from UCI, I attended UCLA and received a MS in Physics.
